About Local Food

Qualla Berry Farm is part of a loose community of growers and marketers throughout western NC who are seeking to provide locally grown food to people who live and visit  the mountains. We are helping to develop ways to keep our rural land in agricultural production. We are listed in the Local Food Guide produced by the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project. For more about U-Pick farms, tailgate markets, and community supported agriculture growers, see their website: www.buyappalachian.org

Qualla Berry Farm 2014

New Year

We are busily preparing hoophouse soil for a fresh crop of turmeric and ginger in the fall of 2014. We also have tulips growing as an experiment once again...leaves just beginning to appear, 1" tall. Busy seed planning, ordering, and sowing this time of year. We are growing a large variety of tomatoes, basils, and marigolds plus perennial pollinator seeds and native grasses mix from the Xerces Society. Start your milkweed seeds, search out native flowers to plant, and help the bees and monarch butterflies.
