About Local Food

Qualla Berry Farm is part of a loose community of growers and marketers throughout western NC who are seeking to provide locally grown food to people who live and visit  the mountains. We are helping to develop ways to keep our rural land in agricultural production. We are listed in the Local Food Guide produced by the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project. For more about U-Pick farms, tailgate markets, and community supported agriculture growers, see their website: www.buyappalachian.org

Qualla Berry Farm 2013

New Year

We are in transition from a u-pick raspberry farm to growing tulips and other crops farm. We will be able to teach and train people to manage their own home fruit production but our commercial raspberry u-pick venture is finished as of fall 2012.  Drosophila suzuki, the new fruit fly from Japan in September 2011 on our farm, can be pushed back but the labor and production costs make growing fruit for the u-pick too costly. This year I wil teach how to grow your own organic raspberries, which is stll possible as a labor of love.
